The VIDEOART AT MIDNIGHT EDITIONS series, launched in 2012, extends the VIDEOART AT MIDNIGHT artists’ cinema project in Berlin, founded in 2008. conceived as a continuously growing collection of contemporary time-based media art—encompassing artist films, videos, and installations—the series brings together significant works by both established and emerging artists.

It arose from discussions with leading figures in time-based media art—particularly during the early years of the loop fair—about the conventions of the art market, which often restrict video editions to just three, five, or seven copies.

VIDEOART AT MIDNIGHT EDITIONS proposes a different approach. While respecting the need for artists and collections to secure copyrights, generate a timely return on investment, and maintain curatorial control over the public presentation of their works, the series also recognizes the fundamental nature of video as a medium that is inherently reproducible and widely distributable.

Each work in the series is published exclusively as part of VIDEOART AT MIDNIGHT EDITIONS in a limited edition of 40 copies (+ aps). Every edition represents a single work within an artist’s wider oeuvre.

The project follows a deliberately democratic approach: inclusive rather than exclusive. By expanding the number of available editions, VIDEOART AT MIDNIGHT EDITIONS seeks to place significant works of contemporary video art in a broader range of collections and to make them accessible at an affordable price—not only for established collectors but also for younger audiences and institutions with limited acquisition budgets.

In this sense, the VIDEOART AT MIDNIGHT EDITIONS series invites collectors and institutions to become part of the growing VIDEOART AT MIDNIGHT community, supporting the ongoing development of this vibrant project and its artists.
